Dahlia Decorative Rip City

Dahlia ‘Rip City’ is a dramatic informal decorative dahlia bearing large 10-12 cm (4–6″) blooms in a rich  velvety burgundy-red that deepens to almost black at the center. ‘Rip City’ blooms from midsummer through to the first frost bringing a bol, moody elegance to garden beds and floral arrangements.  Consider planting some Acidenthera in and amongst!

The key to growing healthy dahlias is planting them in warm soil.  In Eastern Canada this typically means early June.  For a head start you can pot up the tubers in mid to late April and keep them indoors until planting time.  Dahlias thrive in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.  They begin blooming in mid-July and continue right up until the first frost. These plants make excellent cut flowers and are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
