Dahlia ‘Penhill Watermelon’ is an impressive dinnerplate dahlia famed for its massive, wavy blooms in vibrant watermelon-pink tones that fade softly toward peach and coral. The large, loose and uniquely fringed petals give each flower a dramatic sculptural look. Growing on tall, vigorous plants, this variety blooms from midsummer to frost and makes a bold eye-catching statement in both the garden and cut-flower arrangements.
The key to growing healthy dahlias is planting them in warm soil. In Eastern Canada this typically means early June. For a head start you can pot up the tubers in mid to late April and keep them indoors until planting time. Dahlias thrive in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. They begin blooming in mid-July and continue right up until the first frost. These plants make excellent cut flowers and are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Shipping begins in late March, weather permitting.
