Dahlia ‘Islander’ is a show stopping dinnerplate dahlia known for its huge ruffled blooms in a lovely blend of light and dark pink. The petals swirl gracefully, giving each flower a lush, tropical feel. Tall and vigorous, it blooms from midsummer to frost and makes an unforgettable focal point in both gardens and cut-flower arrangements.
The key to growing healthy dahlias is planting them in warm soil. In Eastern Canada this typically means early June. For a head start you can pot up the tubers in mid to late April and keep them indoors until planting time. Dahlias thrive in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. They begin blooming in mid-July and continue right up until the first frost. These plants make excellent cut flowers and are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Shipping begins in April, weather permitting.
