Add beautiful exotic charm to your garden with fritillaria! These fall-planted bulbs are easy to grow and are good companions for tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other spring-blooming flower bulbs. Depending on the type, they can grow up to 4 feet tall! The shortest, Fritillaria meleagris, is famous for the cross-cross pattern in its petals. There are over 100 species and most fritillaria will grow in full sun or light shade. Plant bulbs in well-drained soil and keep it moist until the root system is established. They are deer an rodent resistant bulbs and some of the species have a “foxy” odor.
