Crocosmia also known as Montbretia is a striking perennial plant known for its vibrant, tubular flowers and graceful arching foliage. The flowers, typically in shades of orange, red, yellow, or coral, bloom in clusters on tall slender stems creating a dramatic display in late summer to early fall. Crocosmia is especially valued for its ability to add a splash of colour to gardens during the latter part of the growing season when many other plants are winding down.

Growing to a height of 60–90 cm, Crocosmia works well in flower beds or as a cut flower for bouquets. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soil. Though it is relatively hardy outside of the Toronto area it may still need winter protection. The key to its survival is a thick winter blanket of snow.
