Camassia

The Camassia bulb (Camassia quamash) is a beautiful spring blooming bulb. Its flower stalks stand 24-30” tall and display dozens of star-like blooms that open from the bottom up. This bulb naturalizes well in gardens. The bulb grows best in well-drained soil high. Depending on the cultivar, the flower colour can range from; white – cream – blue or purple.  Did you know it is a member of the asparagus family? Certain species were an important food staple for Indigenous peoples and settlers in parts of the American Old West. Common names include; camas, quamash, Indian hyacinth, camash, and wild hyacinth.
